Events in Connecticut

On February 17, 2007, a Samba Carnivale dance was held as part of the annual Chester Winter Carnivale. Over 200 happy people danced the night away to the heart throbbing music by three wonderful groups:

Cantico:            "Greatest Hits From Brazil"

Trinity Samba:    Traditional carnaval Percussion

Samba Brazil:     Brazil Jazz

Events in Rio de Janeiro

Gilmar, Suellen and Rafael are:

•  Implementing new new ideas and initiatives in their youth work that were learned at Camp Hazen
        - Discussing important issues in cultural workshops with youngsters
        - Organizing meetings to give presentations about life in the USA
  
•  Creating a favela census for 6000 people and children making home visits, registering all inhabitants
  
•  Applying new youth leadership skills and now responsible for youth group Youngsters for Peace
        - Responsible for cultural workshops
        - Renovating and preparing a building called Espaco Terra Encantada for theater, dance, ballet 

          and music
  
•  Organizing trips to down town Rio for youngsters to participate in cultural events by major sponsors
        - Bank of Brazil, Municipal Theatre and FioCruz.
  
• Preparing a Guidelines Manual for the next groups of recruits.
  
• Continuing with English language study
